Larry “David” Matthews, 83, of Glasgow, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Signature Health Care. Born to the late Chester and Rena Francis Rigsby Matthews, David lived a life marked by devotion to his family, faith, and community. He was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith, which guided him through both joyful and challenging times.
David was a loving husband to Barbara Karen Lewis Matthews, who stood by his side through the many seasons of life they shared. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
David’s commitment to his family extended beyond his immediate household, as he remained a steadfast and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his sons, Timmy Matthews and his wife Rita, and Tommy Matthews and his wife Kaye of Thailand, who brought joy and pride to his later years.
He also leaves behind a devoted step-son, William Elmore, and his wife Tabitha. David was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Chad Matthews and his wife BB, Shani Matthews Stawki and her husband Calvin, Gavin Matthews, Daxton Matthews, Chayli Matthews, Ziggy Matthews, and Tasia Matthews, each of whom carried forward his legacy of love, humor, and kindness. A special bond was shared with his niece, Marla Bryant, who brought him much joy throughout his life.
David’s love extended to the next generations, and he delighted in his fourteen great-grandchildren: Briar, Brinlee, and Brady Jo Bragg; Allie Vincent and her husband John Luke; Braxton Simpson; Adleigh Bridgeman; Cody Dubree; Katie and Will Elmore; Abby Britt and her husband Nigel; Cash, Lilly, and Lola Elmore; and Flora Britt.
He also celebrated the birth of his great-great-grandchild, Tripp Vincent, whose arrival brought immense pride and happiness to David’s later years.
Family was central to David’s life, and he is survived by his brother Douglas Earl Matthews and his wife Becky, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, three brothers—Darrell, Donald, and Doyle Matthews one step-daughter, Bobbie Jo Dubree, and two great-grandchildren, Cierra Bragg and Cain Elmore. These losses, though deeply felt, were balanced by the joy and love of the extended family he nurtured over the decades.
David’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, with visitation continuing until the service.
David “Larry David” Matthews will be remembered as a man whose warmth, faith, and devotion left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His legacy lives on in his family, who will continue to honor his memory through love, laughter, and the cherished lessons he imparted throughout his 83 years.
