Cedar Falls Mourns After Fatal Shooting Claims Life of 21-Year-Old Woman

The city of Cedar Falls is mourning following a tragic and deadly shooting that claimed the life of a young woman Thursday evening, sending shockwaves through the community and prompting an ongoing police investigation.

Authorities have identified the victim as 21-year-old Jaye'mya E'shay Sudduth, a resident of an apartment located at 1029 Maplewood Drive.

According to the Cedar Falls Police Department, officers were dispatched to the apartment complex around 7:30 p.m. on February 5 after receiving reports of gunfire. 

Upon arrival, officers discovered Sudduth inside the apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police stated that the shooting occurred during a dispute inside the apartment. While investigators have confirmed that the incident was not random, details surrounding the argument and the individuals involved have not yet been released. 

Authorities continue to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and work to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal encounter.
