Tara Arnold, Wife of Kurt Arnold, Dies in Bangor, Maine Plane Crash

A devastating aviation accident in Bangor, Maine, has claimed the life of Tara Arnold, a prominent Houston-based attorney and the wife of Texas personal-injury lawyer Kurt Arnold, authorities and close associates confirmed on Tuesday.

The private business jet she was aboard crashed shortly after attempting to take off from Bangor International Airport on Sunday evening, killing all six people on board.

The aircraft involved was a Bombardier Challenger 600 private jet, registered to a company linked with the Houston law firm Arnold & Itkin, co-founded by Kurt Arnold and Jason Itkin. The flight had originated in Houston, Texas, with a planned final destination in France for a business trip when it made a scheduled stop in Bangor.

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and local law enforcement in Maine report that the jet attempted to depart from Bangor late Sunday, around 7:45 p.m., amid challenging winter weather conditions including snow and freezing temperatures from a powerful storm sweeping the northeastern United States.

Shortly after beginning its takeoff roll, the aircraft flipped, crashed, and erupted into flames on the runway.

While the official list of passengers has not yet been fully released by Maine authorities pending formal identification procedures, Texan officials have confirmed that Tara Arnold was among the victims

Leslie Briones, Commissioner of Harris County Precinct 4  and a close family friend  spoke publicly about the tragedy, describing Tara Arnold as “a phenomenal person, a bold leader, and someone with a heart of service.” Briones expressed deep sorrow for the Arnold family and their children as they grapple with the sudden loss.

Tara Arnold, 46, was not only the spouse of Kurt Arnold but a respected senior attorney in her own right. She had established a strong professional reputation in personal injury law, specializing in complex offshore and workplace injury cases.

Before joining Arnold & Itkin, she worked in other major legal markets and was widely admired by peers for her dedication to victims and her legal acumen.

Alongside Tara, the other confirmed victims include pilot Jacob Hosmer, a 47-year-old Houston native who had been flying with the firm, and event planner Shawna Collins, whose daughter confirmed her mother’s presence on the flight. Authorities believe the remaining passengers were colleagues or associates on the same business trip.

The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Early speculation suggests that icy runway conditions, poor visibility, and potential de-icing challenges may have contributed to the accident  though investigators have stressed that it is too soon to draw definitive conclusions.

This tragic incident has prompted an outpouring of grief from the Houston legal community, public officials, and clients who knew and worked with the Arnolds.

As details continue to emerge, both local authorities in Maine and officials in Texas are expected to provide regular updates on the crash investigation and on the identification of all victims.
