John M. “Mike” Carr, age 59, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at Cumberland Pointe Care Center. 

His passing marks the loss of a devoted father, proud grandfather, talented chef, and a man whose warmth and individuality left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Mike was widely known for his passion and dedication to the culinary arts. As a chef at Wheeling Island Racetrack and Casino, he took great pride in his work, finding joy in creating meals that brought people together. Cooking was more than a profession for Mike it was an expression of care, creativity, and connection. 

Colleagues and patrons alike remember him not only for his skills in the kitchen, but also for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.

Outside of work, Mike embraced life with enthusiasm and a spirit of adventure. He especially loved going on cruises, where he could relax, explore new places, and enjoy time away from the everyday routine. 

Those trips were moments he cherished, offering stories and memories that he happily shared with family and friends. 

Music was another constant source of happiness for Mike, and he was a devoted fan of the legendary band Kiss. Their music, energy, and bold style resonated deeply with him and reflected his own vibrant personality.

Mike was also a loyal supporter of the Carolina Panthers, faithfully following his favorite team through every season. Game days were something he looked forward to, often filled with excitement, commentary, and friendly debates. 

These interests music, sports, travel, and food paint a picture of a man who truly appreciated the experiences that made life meaningful.

Above all else, Mike’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He leaves behind his beloved children, Seth and Shannon, with whom he shared countless memories, lessons, and unconditional love. His role as a father was central to his life, and he worked hard to provide guidance, support, and laughter along the way. 

Mike was also a deeply proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. His love for them was evident in the stories he told, the smiles they brought him, and the time he cherished spending together.

Those who knew Mike will remember him as a genuine, caring, and spirited individual someone who lived authentically and valued the people closest to him. His legacy lives on through his family, the memories he created, and the many lives he touched through his work and friendships.

In accordance with Mike’s wishes, his family plans to hold private services. They ask that he be remembered not only for his passing, but for the joy, passion, and love he brought into the world.
