Family Tribute – Cheri Smith, Erin Poole, and Amanda Smith Remembered After Sudden Death in Fayetteville

The Fayetteville community is grieving an unimaginable loss following the sudden and violent deaths of Cheri Smithher son Erin Poole, and her daughter Amanda Smith three beloved family members whose presence brought joy, strength, and connection to those around them. 

The tragic incident at their home on North Sumac Circle on the evening of January 25, 2026, has sent shockwaves through friends, neighbors, and loved ones. 

Cheri Smith, age 50, was a devoted mother and pillar of her family. Those who knew her describe Cheri as a woman whose life revolved around her children and her loved ones. She was known for her kind heart, unwavering support, and comforting presence, someone who always put family first and gave herself generously to others. 

Cheri’s home was a place of love and laughter, and her nurturing spirit touched everyone who crossed her path. Her loss leaves a profound void in the lives of her family and in the broader Fayetteville community. 

Her son, Erin Poole, age 29, was remembered as a loyal and caring young man with a future full of promise. Erin shared a deep bond with his family, especially his mother and sister. He was admired for his warm personality, his loyalty to friends, and the way he approached life with quiet strength and compassion. 

For many who knew him, Erin’s genuine nature and generous spirit made every interaction meaningful. His absence is deeply felt by those whose lives he touched. (

Amanda Smith, just 23 years old, is mourned as a bright and caring soul who brought laughter, kindness, and joy into the lives of her family and friends. Amanda’s warmth and compassion made her a cherished daughter, sister, and friend. She radiated positivity and had a way of making people feel seen, appreciated, and loved. Her bright smile and gentle nature will be remembered by many who were fortunate to know her. 

The three were found with life‑threatening injuries after an altercation involving a known associate, and despite efforts by first responders and medical teams, all three succumbed to their injuries.

 A man is now charged with three counts of first‑degree murder in connection with the case. Law enforcement has emphasized that this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community as the investigation continues. 

In the wake of this heartbreaking event, family, friends, and neighbors have come together to honor the memories of Cheri, Erin, and Amanda.
